Every Christian is on a journey. Whether you’ve been a believer for one week or 30 years, there is always another step to take towards maturity in Christ. But much of the time – because we fail to be intentional about this - we get stuck in one place, become spiritually stagnant and unfruitful, or slide back in terms of our passion and pursuit of God.
The Christian life, however, should be a voyage of adventure, growth and upward progression. This is the heart behind our discipleship strategy Highway. Highway outlines the various landmarks and key stop points on the journey towards true personal and spiritual growth.
The word “highway” comes from Isaiah 40:3-5 (and is also linked to the rhema word which birthed “the church we see” statements from Isaiah 43:18-19) where God promises to make a “highway in the desert” (cf. 40:3 - hence the reference to the road “I40” in the Highway illustrations). In these passages, Isaiah was addressing those disillusioned and disappointed Israelites who were in captivity in Babylonia and now seemingly further away from the promises of God than ever before. But the prophetic word was that the Lord himself was providing them a highway back to his promised land. And through this the glory of the Lord would once again be revealed.
Similarly, every believer today needs to get on the highway towards God’s promises. Otherwise we will wander in the spiritual wilderness, exist in spiritual malaise and fail to live God’s best.
What is this highway to promise? It is the highway of discipleship – and there is no better way! It is the surest way to having Christ formed in you, realising his purposes for your life, and bringing him the glory that he alone deserves. But you have to choose to get on it!
A highway is a public road that all may use – a direct route. Highway at LGCC sets out the specific passageway of progression for every person in our church. It is the way we want to train and equip you to be the Church of Jesus Christ, live purpose-driven lives and accomplish the mission set before us: to bring God the glory that he alone deserves (Soli Deo Gloria).
